A weep at a visible joint
A drop that forms at an elbow or a coupling on exposed pipework and tracks down the wall below it. This one is not coming from a fixture, it is coming from where two pipes meet.

Banging inside the wall
A hard knock the moment you close a tap or the washing machine stops filling. That is water hammer, from a run with nothing to absorb the surge, and left alone it works joints loose over time.

You need a new run
A washing machine where there is no connection, an outdoor kitchen, or a tap in the yard for washing the car. That is a new run taken off the nearest point, not a repair.

Exposed pipe is corroding
Pipework on a roof or in a yard takes direct sun, flakes and changes colour. A pipe peeling on the outside has usually narrowed on the inside, and a patch repair on it will not hold.

The order of work
How we workon a run.
A run is treated as a whole run, not as one point on it.
We trace it from the source
We follow the run from the valve that feeds it to the point that fails, counting the joints and elbows it passes on the way.
We isolate that section
The nearest valve closes and the run drains from its lowest point. A pipe with water left in it will not take a fused joint, and any attempt brings the same leak back.
We cut and fuse a new joint
The failed length comes out whole and a new fitting goes on with a heat fused joint. The pipe is cleaned and dried first so the weld takes right around it.
We bring the pressure back
The valve opens gradually, the run sits under pressure, and we watch the new joint and every older joint before it, because returning pressure sometimes exposes a second one.
Background
Why joints failbefore pipes do.
Most water runs in newer Kuwaiti homes are white or green polypropylene, joined by heat fusion: the pipe and the fitting are warmed on a plate, pushed together and become one piece. A clean fusion never leaks, but one made on a wet pipe or at the wrong temperature holds on the day and opens later.
Older houses are on copper, joined by soldering or with compression fittings. Copper handles heat well, but it suffers if a different metal is joined to it without a break between them, and corrosion then starts at that one meeting point rather than along the line.
The pipe itself rarely fails in the middle. The weakness sits at the elbows, because the water changes direction there and strikes the fitting wall harder. Every extra elbow means slightly less pressure at the tap and one more stress point, which is why a straight run with few bends beats a run routed for convenience.
Water hammer deserves its own note. When a tap closes fast, the moving column of water stops suddenly and its energy goes into the joints as a knock. The answer is proper pipe clipping at sensible spacing and something to absorb the surge at the point causing the noise, not tightening every fitting.

That is water hammer. The moving column stops suddenly and the energy goes into the fittings and the pipe. Usually the run is not clipped often enough, or nothing absorbs the surge at that point. Both are dealt with without replacing the whole line.
Yes. The run is taken from the nearest point that already has water, with a dedicated valve so the machine can be isolated on its own. We also need to see the waste point, since supply and drain have to be planned together.
It depends on the state of the run. One failed joint with sound pipe either side means a section repair. If the pipe is flaking, narrowed inside, or has leaked in several different places, replacing the run costs less in the long term.
First the leak is pinpointed, then one opening is made at that spot. In some cases running a replacement line on a different route does less damage than opening a whole floor, and we put both options to you before starting.
Direct sun tires exposed pipework and shortens its life. The practical answer is replacing the damaged length and then covering the run or rerouting it into shade, because a bare pipe on a roof will tire again whatever we repair.
