Water only under the unit
If the cupboard floor under the basin is wet while the tiles around it stay dry, the water is coming off a connector or the waste, and the source is in the open with no wall to open.

A flexible hose is swollen
Flexible connectors have a braided metal sleeve. A bulge in it, rust spots, or broken strands mean it is close to bursting and emptying the tank across the floor.

The unit moves in use
A basin or toilet that shifts slightly each time it is used has lost its fixing to the wall or floor. Constant movement works the connection loose and splits the silicone, and the leak follows.

The silicone lifted or darkened
When the silicone bead between the unit and the wall darkens or lifts at one end, water gets behind it and stays there. It starts as a cosmetic mark and ends as a wall wet from the inside.

We clear the space
Everything comes out of the cupboard and a cloth goes on the floor, so the exact path of the water is visible before any part is touched.
We close the angle valve
The angle valve under the unit isolates it alone and leaves the rest of the house in water. If there is none we fit one, because it changes every future repair.
We swap the failed part
A flexible hose, a washer, a basin waste, or a fresh fixing into the wall. The part is replaced outright, because tightening a tired one brings you back to the same place.
We run it and dry it
The valve opens, the unit runs, every joint is wiped dry by hand, then it runs again to see whether any dampness comes back.
The detail
The small partsthat leak.
The flexible connector is the part replaced most often in this work. It is a rubber hose inside a braided metal sleeve, joining the angle valve to the mixer or the cistern. The rubber inside hardens under constant heat and pressure, and the first sign is a small damp patch at the nut, not a burst.
A basin waste is a different story. The basin drops into a plastic trap that holds a body of water to block odour. The joint between them uses a tapered washer, and over tightening rolls that washer over so it leaks more rather than less. It is hand tight plus a quarter turn, not a job for a wrench.
Fixings depend on the wall. Kuwaiti walls are usually block or concrete, which hold a plug well, but a refitted bathroom sometimes has a light partition wall, and that needs a different fixing or the screws pull out over time and the unit starts to move.
Silicone is not decoration. The bead between a basin and the wall is what keeps water from getting behind the unit. The surface has to be cleaned and fully dried before a new bead goes on. Laid over old silicone or onto a damp face, it lifts again quickly and the water returns through the same gap.

In most cases yes, because this work sits on the visible parts under and behind the unit. Breaking only enters the picture if the leak is inside the wall itself, and that is a different case we tell you about first.
If the weep is at the nut, a new washer is sometimes enough. But once the braided sleeve is bulging, rusting or fraying, the whole hose is replaced, because tightening it only loads a point that is already weak.
First we check whether it is coming from a visible connection or an open silicone joint, which is fixed on the same visit. If the wall is wet with no visible source, the case starts with locating the leak before any work begins.
Clearing the cupboard under the basin and the area around the unit is enough. It saves time and keeps the work clean, and the rest of the bathroom can stay as it is.
