Where to start
Where the levelis going.
Four signs that separate a leaking tank from the rest.
01
It drops with nobody using it
Mark the level at night and look at it in the morning before anyone uses water. A clear drop with no use means water is leaving the tank or a pipe off it, not being consumed.
02
Damp on the wall below
A line of damp or white salt running down the roof wall under the tank says water is leaving the tank or a fitting on it. A ground tank shows the same trace on the paving around it.
03
The overflow runs all day
If the overflow pipe is running while you are not filling, the float valve is not closing and the tank keeps filling and throwing it away. That is a real loss on the bill, but it is not a hole in the tank.
04
The pump fills more than usual
A pump that runs more often than it used to on the same usage says water is going missing between filling and using it, either in the tank or on the line after it.
The service
On the tank,in detail.
Service
Leak detection on water tanks and their outlets
Tank types
Plastic roof tanks and concrete ground tanks
We also check
The float valve, the overflow, outlet fittings and the pump valve
Method
A level test with the outlets isolated, then fittings and body
Coverage
Houses, chalets, blocks and complexes, across Kuwait
Hours
Daily, 6:00 in the morning to 12:00 midnight
How we check
From the mark tothe cause.
Four steps, each one taking a possible cause off the list.
We mark the level and close the outlets
We mark the water level on the tank body and close the inlet and outlet valves, so the tank is shut and nothing can enter or leave it.
We read the level again
If the level drops while the tank is closed on both sides, the loss is in the tank body itself or in a fitting below the water line.
We open the outlets one at a time
If the level held while it was closed and dropped once the outlet was opened, the tank is sound and the loss is on the line after it, which is a pipework job.
We check the body and fittings
We go over the seams, the corners, the area round the outlet boss and the base, then the float valve and the overflow, and tell you the cause and what it needs.
Tanks in the heat
What wears a tankout in Kuwait.
Most Kuwaiti homes have a roof tank, and many have a ground tank as well. The roof tank is plastic standing in full sun all day, and the difference between midday and night expands and contracts the body every single day. That repeated movement tires the weakest places first: the seam, the lower corner, and the area around the outlet boss.
Weight adds to it. A full tank is heavy and all of that weight sits on its base. If the base is not level, or there is no support under the middle of the tank, the body flexes around the boss, and that flex is what opens a hairline split that only shows when the water is above a certain height.
That is why so many cases lose water down to one level and then stop. The split sits at a fixed height in the body, so the level falls until it drops below it and then holds. That pattern is a strong sign the problem is the tank itself and not the float valve or the line after it.
A ground tank behaves differently. The body is concrete and rendered, and a leak there comes from a crack in the internal render or from around a pipe entering the wall. It does not show on the surface the way a roof tank does, because the water simply goes into the fill around it. So on a ground tank the level test carries more weight than anything we can see.

Questions
Asked aboutwater tanks.
Because the split in the tank body sits at a fixed height. Water leaves through it until the level falls below it, and then there is nothing left pushing water out, so it holds. Where it stopped tells us roughly where to start on the body.
It happens often. Water leaving an outlet fitting can run straight into a pipe or the roof drainage and disappear without a trace. On a ground tank it goes into the fill around the body. Dry ground does not rule a leak out.
It depends where the loss is. A weeping outlet fitting, a float valve that will not close and an overflow running to waste are all dealt with without changing the tank. A split in the body is what opens the question, and we tell you which case you have before any decision.
An empty chalet is harder because nobody notices the level. The simplest thing is to close the inlet valve to the tank before you leave and look at the level the moment you come back. If it dropped while it was shut, the loss is the tank or a line below it.
Yes. Water tank cleaning is one of our plumbing and sanitary services. Cleaning often finds the split by itself, because an empty, dry body shows what water hides.
