Water rises in the shower
You flush and water appears in the shower tray or the floor drain. That means the blockage is past the point where those two meet, and not in the pan or the shower itself.

Only the basin runs slow
A slow basin with everything else in the same bathroom draining normally puts the problem in the basin trap or its short branch, and it is usually hair bound together with soap.

The pan empties slowly and refills
The pan empties slowly and the level climbs before it goes. That points to a blockage in the pan outlet itself or immediately after it, and it is most often wet wipes or cloth.

How it works

We test the fixtures one by one
We run the basin, then the shower, then flush the pan, watching where the water shows each time. That order places the blockage exactly one point past the last fixture that behaved.
We lift the floor drain grating
The floor drain is the nearest access inside the room. We lift the grating, read the water level in its trap, and work into the branch from there without removing a single fixture.
The snake goes down the branch
The flexible cable feeds in and follows the bends of the short branch, and turning it winds hair and cloth onto the head so they come out rather than being pushed into the shared line.
We test every fixture together
Basin, shower and a flush all run at once, because that is the hardest moment the branch ever sees. If nothing rises at any opening, the job is finished.
Why it blocks
A short branch, anarrow bore.
A bathroom branch is narrower than any other run in the house, and that is why it is the sensitive one. A small bore means a small mass is enough to close it, and the bends in it are tight, so anything long like hair catches at the first turn. That is why a bathroom blocks long before the kitchen or the main line.
Hair on its own does not block anything. It binds with soap residue, hair oils and creams into a cohesive rope that hooks on any edge inside the pipe. The mass grows with every shower and catches whatever passes it until the bore is fully closed. This is by far the most common case in basins and shower trays.
The toilet has a different first cause: wet wipes and cloth. Wipes sold as suitable for drains do not break apart the way paper does. They stay whole and gather at the first restriction. After those come small towels, bags and cleaning cloths, none of which break down, so all of them have to come back out intact.
Kuwait adds one more cause in chalets: the sand people bring back from the beach. It washes off in the shower and settles in the floor drain trap because it is heavier than water, building until the run is closed. That is a blockage pressure will not move. The trap has to be emptied and cleaned out.

They should not be. Even the ones sold as drain safe do not break apart in water the way paper does. They stay whole and gather at the first restriction in the branch. A closed bin is where they belong.
Because the pan and the shower feed one branch and the blockage is past where they join. The flush cannot move forward, so it comes back up at the lowest opening, which is the shower tray or the floor drain.
In most cases no. We work in through the pan outlet or the floor drain with the snake. Lifting the pan only comes up if a solid object will neither come out nor move on, and we say so before anything happens.
Cleaning from above never reaches the branch. Hair gathers well past the strainer, and sometimes the branch has a weak fall that lets everything settle in it. We work the whole branch and tell you which of the two it is.
Sand washed off in the shower settles in the floor drain trap because it is heavier than water. Pushing does nothing. The trap has to be emptied and cleaned to the base, then refilled with water.
